OK, so you are getting serious about selling your home and are wondering what is the best way to economically enhance your the value of your home while, at the same time, get the utmost bang for your buck...Some people might assume that they will need to expend a number of hours performing research on the Angies List website and evaluating the countless home improvement contractors out there. If that is the route one is going to take, make sure and also talk with friends and family to get their recommendations based on their actual experiences with contractors. Word-of-mouth recommendations usually return the best results, at least that has been my experience.

On the other hand, do not be so quick to spend your home repair budget on hiring outsiders to get the job done...There is an alternative to spending time and treasure giving the abode a much needed facelift...And it does not have to break the bank to add real value to your home if you are willing to expend a bit of elbow grease...Many do-it-yourself (DIY) home improvement projects only require either a basic skillset, or the time and willingness to learn from the many DIY videos available via the Internet.

Two examples yielding plentiful DIY resources are YouTube, and this link for the Home Depot DIY Projects Page. Some of the Home Depot videos go into an impressive level of detail, not the sort of thing you may have expected for free...Of course, there are many similar DIY resources available on the old World Wide Web that can be found using a simple Google search...For example, I entered the following search terms into Google, Do it yourself DIY home improvement, and was greeted with a host of great ideas from sites like hgtv.com, diyjoy.com, and many more.

Now, for suggestions as to how you may want to prioritize your efforts, I was especially impressed with the 5 specific low-budget DIY recommendations found in this video from the Realtor.com entitled These 5 DIY Projects Promise Serious ROI which could easily add to your bottom line when getting ready to place your home on the market. Give it a view when you have a chance...It is amazing what they can squeeze into a 2-minute video...It quickly suggests the following 5 areas on which to focus:

1. Kitchen cabinet dress-up
2. Curb appeal
3. Front door makeover
4. Adding more storage
5. Basic repairs

Whatever you may decide to do, the well-known adage of, You only get one chance to make a good first impression, certainly holds true when it comes to selling real estate...One slight turn-off as a potential buyer is doing their first walkthrough of your home and it could be curtains (pun intended)!
